Within the ‘Days of Julije Knifer 2019’ Festival, the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation presented itself with the topic ‘New Models of Participation of Citizens in Cultural Programmes’. On this occasion, Milica Rašković and Milica Vukadinović from the Foundation spoke about accessibility and importance of close contacts with citizens, since these are the most important preconditions for activation of the society. A high level of citizen participation in cultural activities can significantly contribute to the creation of proactive communities in which all individuals are equally valued and involved.

Social changes that are initiated by the European Capital of Culture project are diverse and also depend on a specific local context, ranging from the development of a new audience, through the change of identity and self-understanding of a particular community, networking and building partnerships between the public, civil and private sectors to decentralisation of culture and activation of passive citizenship.

The goal of the ‘Days of Julije Knifer 2019’ Festival is to present the artist Julije Knifer, as well as interdisciplinarity in art and culture. This concept comes out from the idea of observing Julije Knifer as an artist of the 20th and 21st century, which opened the possibility to present a wide range of artistic events to the city. The fourth ‘Days of Julius Knifer’ will be implemented this year by the University of Osijek, the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek, the Department of Culture, Media and Management, and the Department of Music.
