Audience in Focus: The Room Escape for the First Time in Museum

Published in category: News

The idea to turn the museum into new place for the game through education and knowledge development, offering the audience new, interesting and extraordinary experience by solving different logical tasks, has been realised using innovative and different approach so far – through the ‘Museum Escape: the Secret of Immortality’ game of the Museum of Vojvodina. This project is implemented within the ‘Audience in Focus’ public call of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation, in cooperation with the ‘Room Escape Novi Sad by Fox in a Box’ company.

This game, popular both in the world and in our country, will be played for the first time in the museum, and visitors will be able to uncover ‘the secrets of immortality’ for free every Monday, from 1 April until 13 March.

The idea is to organise visitors in the permanent exhibition in groups of three to six people in order to come up with the solution, which is ‘the Secret of Immortality’. During the process, they have to solve numerous logical riddles, which are very interesting, and thus learn something about the permanent exhibition. They will also have to pay attention to exhibits, showcases and everything that surrounds them. This is why the Museum of Vojvodina is very successful, which is education of visitors and raising awareness of the cultural heritage, said Tijana Stanković Pešterac, Assistant Director of the Museum of Vojvodina.

‘The aim of the project is to bring wider audience, especially young people. We thought that we could accomplish a lot in the field of audience development with the implementation of one game within the permanent exhibition. We wished to make the museum an interesting place where audience could find out about great discoveries’, said Stanković Pešterac.

Lazar Jovanov, Artist Programme Manager of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation stressed that the game is very exciting experience, being one of the best models of audience development.

‘This game is one of the most exciting ways of interpretation of cultural heritage and I personally think that this is something that it does have a great potential to be cultural-tourist offer of Novi Sad. It is a pleasure to be the part of such event that has elements of mystery and emergent theatre and is dedicated to different age groups’, said Jovanov.

Experts in the field of archaeology, pedagogy, conservation and IT designed the game based on the stories and objects from the past that are part of permanent exhibition in cooperation with the ‘Room Escape’ team.

Room Escape games were created in Japan within ‘point & click adventure’ genre of computer games and they soon became popular in the world. Creating such game within the permanent exhibition of the Museum, we leave the virtual world and enter the real one.
